We timed it perfectly! How about a visit to San Diego, just as the first freeze comes early here? Yes, that’s the ticket!
Bruce’s last college to check out was UCSD, the University of California in San Diego. Located just north of San Diego, a bit east of La Jolla, it was one of the first to have a cognitive science option, which appeals to our boy.
Pros: slightly apart from a decent-sized city, an hour away from a large city, great weather year round, quarter system, large research facility, small college feel, nice campus, good program, less Type-A focus than Ivy League schools. Cons: Hmmm. I think this one has moved to the top of the list.
Now: the boy just needs to finish all the applications, and hope to make it through the hoops. UCSD admits only 1/3 of its applicants, and only has 10% from out of state. We’ll know more in April.
