I’m making a conscious effort to think of all the good things that happened this year, as it was a bit rough otherwise. After losing Phil around this time last year, then Uncles Duncan & Roger soon after, followed by dear Aunt Audrey and then Gene this summer, we needed some uplifting news, which is not forthcoming from headlines.
So, on a positive note, here are some things that went well this year:
- Bruce is thriving at UCLA, loving his psychology, linguistics, and computer classes, and his friends.
- Dave has settled most of the details from his dad’s estate, and gotten his mom set up living with his sister, after many, many visits throughout the year.
- We sold our warehouse, the site of Liz’s art studio and Dave’s pinball game storage, to a wonderful couple, Daniel & Annie of Lead Pencil Studio. As artists who trained as architects, they will surely be able to execute on their vision for the property.
- Liz & her family helped her mom settle into a condo in Ottawa, in the busy Hintonburg neighborhood, much closer to her sons, with room for us to visit.
- We enjoyed a month-long visit from Paul & Sue to Guemes.
- Liz sold several large art pieces and had her first gallery shows in Seattle.
- We managed a quick trip to the Oregon coast, taking advantage of our empty nest and a break in the task lists.
- We had visits home from our boy in the spring, summer, and fall, always enjoyable.
We hope you had some glimmers of good news throughout the year too. We are looking forward to spending time with family and friends, getting in hugs & laughs whenever possible. Wishing you the same good cheer this winter season.
Liz, Dave, & Bruce
