Hey, whenever you have a chance to be on an island INSIDE a lake, you should go — right? Well, we think so, anyway. We ventured up to the family cottage on Manitoulin Island this summer, to see how it’s doing, and make sure everything’s holding together.
Though the dock never went out into the water this year, it looked ready to go, and the lake levels were really high, higher than they’ve been for years. The water line wasn’t in either, so we were glad we decided not to rough it, and were very grateful to find a room in nearby Espanola for the night.
The old oak tree looks good too, with Phil‘s spirit still very much a presence. The place has so many summer memories for Dave, but is a little too remote from where we spend most of our time. It’s hard to revisit and realize those days are done. Happily, the place is being looked after by a local caretaker, and the surrounding area looked well-used, still a source of happy memories for other vacationing families.
