It’s been over a year in Seattle, and not quite a year since our old place sold. Time to check in on how things are going.
- We have lots of great places to eat! This city shot was taken as we were leaving Tanakasan, yum.
- Friends have happily met us in town for events, or a meal downtown. Thanks!
- The bus system gets me lots of places, thought there are still pockets I need to explore (coughWest Seattlecough).
- It helps to have a little something to tend. Behold, our (very) small deck garden, expanded a bit with new planters.
We are still struggling with finding a sense of community here. In a city neighborhood, it’s so much less likely to bump into someone familiar, just due to the population density. Our community is more likely the people we’re riding the elevator with, in our own building.
But the street corners are starting to look familiar, at least, and we know where to find most staples, from toothpaste to donuts. And we’re starting to have a few answers when people ask where they should eat.
It’s a tough world out there, much more evident in the city, and my downsizing woes are minimal in comparison. But overall, I appreciate the complexity of being in the center of things for a change. I think we’ll stick it out for a while!
