Senior Year: Off Campus

Bruce was not guaranteed a dorm spot for his final year at UCLA, so we planned ahead and found him an apartment close to campus. The excess furniture stored since our move to the city finally got put to good use!

Turns out a small studio apartment leaves a lot behind in our storage unit, and at the same time feels like a lot of STUFF to the new apartment dweller. We started with a clean slate (left) where you can see pretty much the whole place: kitchen to the left, bathroom & closet to the right, and living space straight ahead.

Then, the storage pod arrived! This very agile forklift driver put all the stuff we’d packed up a couple of weeks ago, and placed it precisely where we’d snagged a parking spot on the busy street. We were NOT the only folks moving in!

Once the piano was in place, and a poster above it, the place started to take shape. We filled the kitchen with pantry essentials, decided which side was bedroom and which was living/dining room, and used every bit of storage space we could find.

Now, that space looks cozy, even functional. The windows face north, into a small courtyard, where there’s a chance of a breeze to supplement the air-conditioning or the fireplace, as needed. And our boy has all the stuff he needs to get through fourth year in style.
