We are grateful for this year for many reasons:
- Managing yet another trip to Scotland
- Settling into the conveniences of city living
- Attending Dave’s cousin’s marriage in the UK and reconnecting with family there
- Taking breaks in Ottawa with family, over Labor Day and in December
- Moving Bruce into his own apartment, with a generous helping of furniture saved from the house
- A crazy drive down & back up the coast for Thanksgiving
As he finishes his senior year at UCLA, Bruce has decided to look into graduate studies in linguistics, with two applications already submitted, and one more to go. He’s made a good go of living on his own, without the crutch of the nation’s best on-campus food. He knows 3 dinners very well, and will take suggestions for expanding his repertoire. Legal drinking is on the horizon next month, but he promises to stay focused nevertheless.
Dave continues to manage his storage team at Microsoft, while also traveling regularly to Ontario to visit & help his mother. Current distractions, er, hobbies are classic arcade video games and cars. Highlights include fixing a Major Havoc board by C-coding debug ROMs on its 6502 processor, and finally using a tube rejuvenator (successfully!!) to resuscitate some CRT monitors. He’s also been pleased with The Shop as a place to store & maintain his collector cars, and find like-minded souls. Let him know if you want a tour of the cars!
Liz is working away at her art, hosting several open houses at her studio, enjoying her studio mates at Bazaz Glass, and attending and entering exhibitions throughout the year. She was pleased to find an open volunteer slot at another art organization (CoCA) as webmaster, in the same building as her gallery, Lynn Hanson Gallery. You can find her touring most of the First Thursday art walks in Pioneer Square, now that they’re so easily reached by bus.
In our downtime, we watched great shows & movies, and got into some excellent books. Our favorites include Bohemian Rhapsody, Sorry to Bother You Little Fires Everywhere, I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, The Dispossessed, Kim’s Convenience, and The Expanse.
We’re grateful for all of it, especially you, friends & family, and we hope you had a good year too, or at least enough good to balance any rough spots. May 2019 have at least a few delights in store for all of us.
