Ski Jumping

On Friday the 12th, me and my dad went to see Men’s Ski Jumping Normal Hill Qualifying at Whistler Olympic Park. We didn’t get seats, but standing was enough as we watched the athletes soar through the air in an interesting pose: their skis out in a “V” shape and their bodies leaning forward, almost parallel with their skis. I am happy to report that nobody crashed! Ski jumping has an interesting strategy: The hill size or hill safety (HS) was 106 meters, and after that mark, it got harder and harder to land, so the really good people stopped at about 105.5 meters because their coaches moved the starting bar downwards. One guy got 108 meters, but he was very lucky that he didn’t fall over on the landing. All in all, it was a great way to start off Vancouver 2010!
