To start off our day in Glasgow, I wanted to meet an artist I follow on Twitter, Ian Rawnsley. He’s got a wonderful project underway, one hundred small paintings to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Centre. He obliged by meeting our train and leading us to a coffee shop to talk art and life in Glasgow. Eventually, I settled on this piece, from St. David’s in Pembrokeshire, to take home with me. It’s a wonderful souvenir for a great cause.
Our next stop, where they unfortunately discouraged photographs, was the Glasgow School of Art, built by the amazing Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Here’s a peek from the outside. The details and functionality were inspiring, and had me dreaming of extended stays in Scotland to pursue an MFA!
To round the day out, we stumbled upon the best Thai food in Glasgow at Thairiffic, and then snuck in a spot at the last table at the fabulous No. 16 for dinner. They were offering a fixed menu for celebrating graduates of the nearby University of Glasgow, so we went along with the theme. The menu had an amazing rendition of sticky toffee pudding — I’ll wear a cap & gown for that!
