How was your year? We are looking back, planning ahead, and reaching out. This past year, we purposely did not plan anything big, as we knew it would be a transition year. Little did we know how much that open time would matter.
We did have pins in the calendar for Bruce’s graduation, and a move, somewhere, at the end of the summer. Dave continued to help with his mother’s care back in Ontario, and we managed a quick trip in February, to California wine country, and another long weekend in Hawaii just recently. In between all of that, two families we are close to here had sudden health issues, and we were glad of that open calendar, allowing us to offer help as needed.
With the rest of our free time, we continued to work on enjoying city life. Dave secured some nearby space to use as a workshop, and we nabbed tickets for all kinds of fun events nearby, including the Seattle Film Festival opening gala, an evening with Bob Newhart, and the comedy of Eddie Izzard.
Liz had her first solo gallery show in April, continuing to work at her studio in Ballard, and volunteering with web support at CoCA downtown. She also finally put in an order for shelving in the living area, clinching room for those last few packed knicknacks and art. The design, by Plank & Grain, is stunning.
Bruce is home again, executing a Plan B for graduate school, since he wasn’t accepted at the schools he applied to last year. He stayed on at UCLA for the summer to add a Linguistics minor, completely reworked an essay for his writing sample, and is applying to another slew of schools, looking for a fit for Fall 2020.
Thanks to her bus rides, Liz read more than a book a week, and particularly enjoyed book/video comparisons, like The Expanse, which we all watched & read together. Friday nights have been family movie night, with each of us taking turns suggesting a few options, and expanding our watch lists.
We have great hopes for 2020: for Bruce happily settled at graduate school, for us travelling to the Shetlands, Faroes, and Iceland, and for staying connected with friends & family, all in good health. May your 2020 also unfold with hope & happiness for you and your loved ones.
