It breaks my heart to have to create another memorial post, but here goes. My uncle Roger is gone. Here he is as a young man in uniform, where he first met Carole; they married in 1958.
My parents kept in touch with them as we were growing up, and soon there were six of us kids between the two families. We got together whenever we could. Uncle Roger’s is where I learned to ride a bike, where we watched the first moon landing in their basement. Here’s one of our favorite pics, when they visited us to hit the beaches of Lake Ontario. I’m wearing the lovely red polka dots!
We got together as an extended family all the time, for holidays, or any excuse to play cards and tease each other. Any of my dad’s & Roger’s siblings in reach would come, and sometimes all of them, as in this shot.
When we moved out west, we were delighted to host Roger & Carole at our beach house, where we actually captured Rog sitting still!
We also pulled off a big trip to Hawaii in 2002 for Dave & Bert’s birthdays. Here’s Roger indulging in a bit of play time with Bruce.
When we lost Aunt Carole in 2005, it was a big blow. But a few years later, as we drove across the continent on our RV trip, we were happy to meet Roger’s new wife, Marilyn, as we caught up with family and friends in Ottawa. We join her & all the family in mourning and remembrance.
