Bruce has been in Robotics before school even started, and all that work has finally paid off. He went to the final Robotics Championship on the team “6 Fish in a Tank” (pictured clockwise from Bruce: Matthew, Colin, Andrew, and Evan; not pictured: Bryce). The team’s LEGO Mindstorms robot accomplished a series of tasks around a board, such as releasing an impact test vehicle or hitting access markers; the team also reasearched and presented a project about making the shipping industry more efficient. They didn’t win any awards, which meant they couldn’t go to the state championship, but the other Vista team, “S.P.E.E.D H.E.R.T.Z.”, won the project award! Bruce learned a lot about teamwork and effectively working as a group, and a little about Mindstorms programming as well. Dave and he are planning on programming our Mindstorms robot at home, which is currently gathering dust as a robotic scorpion.
